A few key trends from this year’s A-level results.
Today (14th August) is A-level, T-level and other equivalent vocational results day in England, Wales and Northern Ireland so what do we know about this year’s A-level results and current A-level trends?
- Record numbers of students have got their first-choice university place
- A and A* grades percentages have risen by 2.2% percent
- There has been a small drop in students receiving 3 A*s from 4,136 to 4,043 compared with last year’s milestone rise
- Entries in arts subjects have fallen by 31% – with dance down 59%, drama down 53%, music down 47% and art and design down 9.4%
- The regional gap has widened between the highest performing region, London and the lowest performing region, the North East
- The gap between private and state schools has narrowed
- This year’s three most popular subjects were (in order), maths, psychology and biology
- STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects have risen in popularity
- For the first time since 2018 male students achieved more A and A*s than female students (by 0.2%) 1,2,3
