A new global school wellbeing report by HundrED examines the projects that address the challenges for students and staff worldwide.
Released on 15th January, the Spotlight on Wellbeing in Schools report sets out findings from its global research about student wellbeing. It looks at 15 impactful innovations that aim to help with everything from social-emotional learning to dealing with academic pressure.
What are the components of wellbeing?
We know that considerations around wellbeing are essential in schools – and this was brought sharply into focus during and after COVID-19.
The study outlines the need for it to be the foundation of learning in schools rather than an add-on. And, while recognising that the success of wellbeing projects is context-specific, the over-arching message is clear: investing in student and teacher wellbeing is not something that we can ignore.
Using the ‘Wellbeing framework’ devised by The Wellbeing Research Centre at Oxford University, the authors outline the areas that contribute to school life satisfaction – people, health, skills and environment – and explain how success in these areas can contribute to students’ attainment.
They then go on to explain the selection process involved in choosing the global wellbeing innovations to feature in the remainder of the report.
With a wide range of wellbeing initiatives to discover, this document is an informative read for anyone interested in promoting wellbeing in their school.
