The UK and Ukraine strengthen school partnerships

An initiative to strengthen educational and cultural ties between UK and Ukrainian schools.

The UK-Ukraine schools partnership was established in January 2025 with the aim of ‘boost[ing] education standards and break[ing] down barriers to opportunity’. It is part of the official 100 Year Partnership Declaration between the two countries.

School partnership expands

One year on, here in January 2026, the school partnership is set to grow significantly from the initial 100 schools that collaborated on a year-long reading project, with over 300 additional institutions joining the group.

To strengthen educational ties between the two countries, the partnership activities include teacher exchanges, joint projects and the sharing of best practices. It is designed to help Ukrainian students adapt to the challenges posed by the war and provide them with access to educational opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.

Broader support for Ukraine

This expansion is part of a broader effort by the UK to support Ukraine’s recovery and rebuilding process, particularly in areas most affected by the war. Schools have become a vital part of this, offering students a safe space to continue their education despite the disruptions caused by the conflict. In addition, the partnership helps to build cultural understanding by helping both British and Ukrainian students gain a broader perspective on the world.

But it’s not just the students who benefit. Teachers are also enjoying the partnership and opportunity to collaborate and develop new teaching skills. By learning from each other, both British and Ukrainian educators are enhancing their own approaches to teaching and ensuring that students receive a more well-rounded education.
