It’s clear from what is happening right now in terms of conflict, weather events and natural disasters, that the future is unpredictable.
UNICEF has published its The State of the World’s Children 2024 report which examines how the events of today will affect the world of tomorrow – and how young people may be equipped to deal with them.
It outlines three powerful scenarios for the future – ‘business as usual’, accelerated development and delayed development – to illustrate the possible outcomes of the choices and actions we do or do not make now for the children of 2050.
The State of the World’s Children 2024 report
UNICEF identifies three powerful forces it names ‘megatrends’ that will affect children’s lives over the next 25 years and makes recommendations for governments, businesses and human rights organisations to:
- prepare for demographic transitions
- expand climate resilience
- deliver connectivity and safe design for every child (digital literacy and equity).
Featuring views from young people across the world on what they think the world needs to do prepare for challenging times, the report clearly sets out the challenges while making positive recommendations for change.
